What Is PPH? Primary pulmonary hypertension, or PPH, is a rare lung disorder in which the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery rises well above normal limits for no apparent reason. Elevated pressures in the pulmonary arteries increase the workload on the right side of the heart, often enlarging the heart and resulting in congestive heart failure, or CHF.

Many cases of PPH have been associated with the appetite suppressants, Pondimin (fenfluramine) and Redux (dexfenfluramine.)  These two drugs combined are referred to as Fen-Phen and are said to be responsible for many new cases of PPH and a variety of heart and lung disorders.

For years doctors prescribed Fen-Phen, Pondimin and Redux to help patients lose weight and improve overall health. Now, cases of PPH are increasing and many blame the use of these diet drugs. Did the manufacturer of Fen-Phen, American Home Products, fail to warn consumers about the dangers of the drug? Or did they fail to test Fen-Phen properly in a rush to get it out on the market?

One thing is for sure – American Home Products was negligent. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with PPH, let an experienced PPH attorney help you find out the truth. Chances are your PPH could have been prevented. You may be entitled to compensation for your injuries, pain and suffering.

U.S. government health organizations and private health advocacy groups recommend that anyone who has taken Pondimin, Redux or Fen-Phen for any period of time, either alone or with another drug, should see their doctor for a medical history and physical examination to determine whether there are signs or symptoms of valvular heart disease or primary pulmonary hypertension.
